January FYI Newsletter

Program Information and Hours: During the school year the  Youth Center is a safe and secure drop-in program; you can relax with friends, play ping-pong or pool, watch TV, read and do homework, play PS4 games, and utilize the large computer lab. Daily hours throughout the school year are: Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 6:00pm. During the summer we hosted our annual Summer Camp during the hours of 8:00am-5:30pm. The Youth Center is closed on Saturday & Sunday.

Director’s Message:  As we enter into January, I would like to wish everyone a happy new year!  And a happy new decade! January is my favorite time of year because it gives us a chance to start over.  Every year we create “New Year’s Resolutions” which gives us the opportunity to set new goals and better ourselves throughout the year.  Whatever your resolutions this year, I want to encourage you to continue to work toward them and not give up! One of my favorite Chinese Proverbs says, “the man who moves a mountain starts by carrying one stone”.  Whatever mountain you are trying to move this year, keep working at it, one stone at a time.

Student Advisory Council: The SAC will meet on Monday January 13 and Thursday January  16th. Any student wishing to join needs to contact Mr. Butler via email at [email protected]

Road to Success Program:  To date we have reached 223 GEDs @ 97% success rate.   We have filled 22 seats so far this year with 23 more to fill until June 30, 2020.  Students have been interning at Flagler Youth Center, Flagler Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, Flagler Technical Institute’s Extended Day and East Coast Gym.  Workshops this month included, Wells Fargo Banking, Sayskids life skills, FTI’s program overview, a field trip to Daytona International Speedway. Students also earned certifications in First Aid / CPR.

This month we are celebrating one of our team members’ Birthdays as well as her fifth year with RTS! Congratulations to Taahira Lee, she is one of the main reasons our students and program have been successful over the years.
